For further information about the programs, speak to one of the ministers or the church administrator.
- Mother’s Day Project: In honour of Mother’s Day, we collect toiletries and other useful items for women in need and donate them to the programs for women at Fred Victor and Arise Ministry.
- Giving Tree: On the second Sunday in Advent, the congregations donate toiletries and warm clothing such as hats, scarves, gloves, and socks. The children decorate a Christmas tree in the sanctuary with the clothing items. To help keep people warm and healthy in winter, we donate to the outreach programs at Evangel Hall and The Christian Resource Centre. Last year we collected 5 large bags of items.
- Community Breakfasts: On the second Saturday of each month, we host a breakfast from 8 am to 9:30 am for all those in need in the community. Each month we serve up to 45 guests a hot meal to start their day. Volunteers are always appreciated for shopping, food preparation, serving, and cleaning. A full supportive orientation is provided for new members of the breakfast team.
- The COTH Food Bank: Both congregations are founding members of the Churches-on-the-Hill (COTH) group. COTH is a collection of 9 church congregations in the Yonge & St. Clair Neighbourhood who run the COTH Food Bank, hold occasional ecumenical worship services, and collaborate on outreach projects to aid our community. The COTH Food Bank is located at Timothy Eaton United Church. Our people help with administration and distribution of food on Monday evenings and Wednesday afternoons. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, volunteers receive, repackage, sort, and stock supplies. Last year, COTH Food Bank distributed about 918,000 meals!
- Food Drive: To support the Food Bank, an annual neighbourhood food drive is conducted in early April. Many volunteers from all the congregations from the Churches on the Hill, as well as numerous student volunteers, go door-to-door on one Saturday to notify neighbourhood residents of the drive. Then on the next Saturday, the volunteers go door-to-door to collect the food and any cash donations.
- Evangel Hall: This mission has been helping homeless and socially isolated individuals to find a safe haven from the streets for over 100 years. Located near Queen and Bathurst, Evangel Hall provides food, clothes, and shelter for up to 150 people each day. Our congregations help this mission financially and by providing a home-cooked dinner and socialization at least once a year.
- Stamping Out Leprosy: We collect used stamps (any age, any nation) as part of a fund raiser for The Leprosy Mission of Canada. The stamp program is a way to divert something of value from the general recycling stream into better health for people with a long-lasting infection. If you want to donate stamps (please leave a large border around the stamp), there is a box in the back of the sanctuary.
